Be Cautious. Be attentive: What you need to know about home and auto insurance.

One of the best ways to save on Auto and Homeowners’ insurance is to stay claim-free. Sometimes that is easier said than done. We can’t always predict what might happen. We can, however, secure your vehicle and house to prevent theft and save you money along with the hassle of dealing with unexpected losses this summer.

Here are some quick tips to protect your auto or home:

  • Garages are a common entry point for burglars. Keep your garage door closed

  • Make sure the windows are up—even in the summer months as this is a common way for thieves to grabs things from your auto

  • Be careful to park your auto in well-lighted areas or in reputable parking garages

  • Think about an alarm system for your home or a dog for protection; most thieves won’t go near homes with pets

  • Make sure when you leave your home in the summer months for vacation or an extending trip of any kind, make sure that someone checks on your home regularly and that you leave some lights on in your home

  • Don’t put suitcases in your car in areas that can be seen be conscious of your surroundings and who might be watching your whereabouts

  • Attractive nuances such as swimming pools, trampolines, tree houses can also increase your premiums as they increase overall risk

  • Do you work from home? Think about all the stuff you need to run a home business: computers, scanners, printers, office furniture…the list goes on and on. Home office increase risk and personal liability from having customers or clients visit. A home business might require a separate insurance to provide the best coverage and decrease the threat for loss

  • Make sure any luxury items you own such as paintings, jewelry could also make your home a serious target for theft. Depending on their value, you may need a separate insurance rider

We at Doyle Insurance are in the business of helping our clients with the appropriate coverage.

As the summer months’ approach, please make sure you take every precaution necessary to protect your home, your personal property, your auto and most importantly yourself.

Thanks, Sean
