How Your Local fire department impact your home insurance policy?

November 9, 2016

"Each fire protection agency (including your local fire department) is reviewed by the insurance Services Office (ISO) and ranked based on their fire protection services, such as fire equipment, staffing and available water supply."  Many insured's don't realize that the distance your home is from the local fire department is part of the determination whether they will insure your home and how much they charge for your home owner's policy.

Depending on the location of your home, the risk of wildfire may be a significant concern.  For those of us that live on the east coast are less likely to have this be of concern, but those that live in the Western US with the increased exposure to wildfires, it is a definite indicator of cost.

If you live in or near an area with an increased wildfire risk, it is important to reduce the risk and improve the overall safety of your home.  If you have any question, we would be happy to conduct a "FireLine score and the steps you can take as a homeowner to reduce your exposure.

Thanks,

Sean
